Jeremy Epp to join percussion faculty at University of Michigan

December 01, 2017

I am happy to announce that I will be joining the percussion faculty at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance starting in January 2018 as a Lecturer of Percussion. I'm looking forward to working with the students and faculty and to building on a history of fruitful collaboration between Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians and the Univerity of Michigan.

Two Orchestras, Two GRAMMY Nominations

November 28, 2017

I can now say I'm a GRAMMY nominee! I performed as timpanist on two of the five 2018 GRAMMY-nominated recordings in the Best Orchestral Performance category:

Copland: Symphony No. 3; Three Latin American Sketches

Leonard Slatkin, conductor (Detroit Symphony Orchestra)

Mahler: Symphony No. 5

Osmo Vänskä, conductor (Minnesota Orchestra)

The recording sessions took place over a year apart and the process was quite different for each: the Copland was mainly taken from live performance recordings, while Mahler 5 was recorded in dedicated sessions following a weekend of performances. I'm honoured to have been onstage with so many great musicians and I'm thrilled that both of these fine orchestras are being recognized for their work.

Jeremy Epp to remain with Detroit Symphony Orchestra

January 24, 2017

Over the course of several months in 2016, I had the honor of performing, recording, and subsequently being offered the position of Principal Timpanist with the Minnesota Orchestra. While it was very difficult to close the door on a new musical opportunity, I've decided to remain with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

I offer my deep appreciation to the personnel staff, the production team, and the stage crew in Minnesota for planning and executing a great audition and making my weeks with the orchestra run smoothly. I'm also grateful to Osmo Vänskä and the musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra - especially the members of the percussion section - for making me feel welcome and for providing me with a several memorable and rewarding musical experiences.

While having to choose between two organizations poised for bright futures and made up of talented musicians and great people is the epitome of a good problem to have, it was an extremely tough decision, and I'm indebted to the many people who offered support and advice.

I look forward to continued growth and success with my colleagues at the DSO and send my sincere best wishes for the same to those in the Minnesota Orchestra.

Jeremy joins the Freer Percussion team!

December 14, 2016

I am excited to announce that I am among the newest members of the Freer Percussion artist roster! I have been using Freer products through several of their incarnations dating back to my days as a student and continue to do so with the DSO. I have been impressed with the commitment to innovation and quality that has been a hallmark of Tom Freer's design and production efforts for years, and look forward to a continued relationship.
